Mary Ann (1803-1888) married Burwell Hylton. Their children were Ira, Riley, Julie, Lorenza, Nathan, Jacob John, Mathias, Eva, Nancy, Henderson, Ananias, Levi, and Catherine.

If Steven Spielberg had known this woman's incredible story before learning of the Ryan family, his World War II blockbuster would have been a Civil War blockbuster named "Saving Private Hylton." This woman had fourteen (14) children -- ten of them boys, all of which fought in the Civil War -- and all but one, Nathan, were either captured, wounded and/or killed.

The Virginia Civil War Home Page lists Ananias, Henderson, Ira and Lorenzo on the 54th Virginia Infantry roster.

Ira’s descendant Donald E. Hylton has connections to Christopher through both Elizabeth and Mary Ann and Donald’s wife, Brenda Slusher Hylton, has connections through Jacob.
